Upon accumulating his third cautionary card during the season, a player has the potential to have one deducted from his tally if he competes in five consecutive matches without incurring further disciplinary action or receiving additional penalties. Currently, the athlete possesses two opportunities to qualify for the "good conduct bonus" in the MLS regular season. Should the player remain unpenalized, both in terms of red and yellow cards, throughout the next five games, his total caution count would decrease by one more, resulting in a single caution and one final chance to earn the good conduct reward.
Prior to the 2025 campaign, the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) also implemented a comparable policy. This marks yet another instance where North American soccer is employing disciplinary incentives to foster ongoing exemplary conduct among players.
